To add a hyperlink, type the text you want linked, highlight it, then click the "chainlink" icon on the toolbar, select "web address", copy/paste the website address into the box, and select "Add Link"). When you click Save on the toolbar, the link will become active.
To insert a photo, select the picture frame icon (next to the chainlink), select Upload Files, locate and select your photo, wait for it to be added to the top of the image list, then double click it and it will appear on the page. You can resize the photo with the +/- buttons so it fits in the space. Click Save on the toolbar to make sure it is saved.
I teach undergraduate and graduate courses in literacy in the School of Education and I work collaboratively with colleagues in URI's Harrington School of Communication and Media. I also conduct research and provide professional development for teachers around the country in the areas of digital literacy, online reading comprehension, and effective practices for integrating technology into school curriculum. You can follow the links to learn more about me and my research. Two big projects I've been involved with include the The Online Research and Reading Comprehension Assessment (ORCA) Project (2009-2015) to develop valid and reliable assessments of digital literacy and the Teaching Internet Comprehension to Adolescents (TICA) Project (2003-2006) to develop Internet Comprehension Strategies among low-income adolescent students in urban Connecticut and rural South Carolina. I am very interested in learning more about the exciting things happening in Rhode Island as well as talking with teachers about the challenges of learning with technology in schools. Some recent work I've done in Rhode Island includes a January 2013 keynote on Engaging Tomorrow's Learners for the Provost's 5th Annual Academic Summit at URI, and in April 2013, I spoke at the Rhode Island State House to share ideas for how the state should be supporting teachers in Rhode Island for a digital age. In February 2013, I met some amazing teachers from around the state who presented at the 1st Annual Conference titled Empowering Practice Through Technology. Plans are in the works to continue the conference in 2014 and I'd like to find other ways to celebrate the innovative things that Rhode Island teachers are doing in schools.
